Director, Food Safety
Eric Edmunds, JD, is a Food Safety Director with The Acheson Group (TAG) and HashTAG and brings a combination of legal, regulatory, and food industry experience to TAG. Having managed rule making proceedings and assisting with regulatory policy and implementation as a program analyst and food safety specialist with the Food Safety and Animal Health Program at the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Eric understands the complexities of state regulations and the varying application of these to cannabis, hemp, and CBD.
Eric has worked with the cannabis and hemp industries in the areas of regulation, growing, and production; assisted companies in preparing for GMP, GFSI, SQF, BRC, and supplier audits; and has worked extensively with FDA regulations and GMP processes and certifications.
In his work with the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Eric spent a great deal of time dealing with both farm-related and foodservice/retail food safety issues, and was a member of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture FSMA Technical Working Group – bringing special expertise in those areas to HashTAG.
Eric earned a B.S. in Biology from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah where he conducted research with Great Salt Lake Institute in environmental genetics. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon. Before joining TAG, he operated Eric Edmunds Law; the practice focused on providing comprehensive legal counsel for food businesses.
Eric is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), and a member of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). He is certified in HACCP, and is a FSMA Preventive Controls Qualified Individual for Human Food (FSPCA).
Eric lives in southern Idaho, and enjoys travel, soccer, cooking, skiing, snowboarding, and spending time in the outdoors.
